SPF is a given, whether you’re mad about beauty, not interested at all, or somewhere in between, it’s non negotiable for skin health ( preventing skin cancer) and even if you’re just wanting one proven anti-ageing product in your skincare regime. ( The other is Retinol, the rest are still out there…in terms of research). So when I was privileged to try Evy Skin SPF mousse I jumped at the chance… ( added benefit- it’s also cruelty free, fragrance free, free of alcohol )
I was sent a sample of the SPF30 and I must say that I tried it for a full month to give it a fair review.
What is the EVY Daily UV SPF 30?
I must admit that I was really intrigued by the consistency of this SPF, its a mousse. Yes… you read it here, a skincare mousse !(I’ve only ever tried chocolate mousse and a haircare one). So I asked Evy for more information on how their technology works and they sent me all the information i asked for, I must admit, I was impressed- I love a company that is passionate about their products that they are communicative and responsive.
Evy says- The Face mousse is a ‘wetter ‘ consistency but melts in beautifully: about a golf ball will serve the face and neck, and any left can go on the back of the hands. It can be used around the eyes, on the lips if you so wish, on the scalp even. It takes about 5 mins to absorb.
Evy claims that their technology is such that the mousse is directly absorbed into the epidermis, and hence an ‘accidental ‘ benefit of it is that it will act as a booster for other skincare. So if, for example one is using a serum it helps seal it in, Evy suggests that one uses it first then add Evy after, and EVY will carry the serum through deeper into the epidermis to works it’s magic there, (providing the serum molecules are small enough. ) Also, Evy says that it strengthens the skin barrier ( though I must be honest, I can’t understand how) by creating a breathable shield from external irritants. Therefore they suggest that one always applies active skincare first, or EVY will block their active ingredients.
Price: The Spf 30 is £25 for 150ml ( but all their price range is between the £22-25 mark and since it lasts for 60 applications, which I can confirm is true- this is a very reasonable price for a good sunscreen.) They also have free P&P and no minimum order amount, and deliver within 1-2 days. Plus no bias, but they have great customer service, you can call them on the phone and/or socials and they respond very quickly to queries.
They also have an entire range of SPF from 10-50 (though I personally prefer SPF 30 and higher) an after-sun and a tan activating mousse too. They also have a range of mousses for kids too.
My thoughts:
My thoughts on SPF are well documented on my blog, I wear high SPF rain, sun, or snow… so I’m always looking out for good quality SPF’s that have a pretty high UV rating. And also has a great formula. I know one thing about this SPF, it isn’t a gimmick. The mousse actually sinks in and after about a few seconds there is no greasy after all…nor a sticky, tacky one. It does feel like magic. I can’t say if my serums are penetrating any deeper because of this, but it does provide a great canvas for my makeup and my skin does look a lot more glowy ( hello, magic trio of retinol, acids and vitamin C ).
The added benefit that I can reapply it over makeup means that constant reapplication doesn’t seem to be a problem either 🙂 They are also cruelty free, alcohol free and the bottle is airtight.
It does contain Octocrylene which is the old filter for UVB rays; though it does have Uvinul T (Ethylhexyl Triazone) to make up for it. Another thing that must be added as a safety precaution is that it contains Butane and Propane, which make it a fire hazard…don’t place the bottle on the radiator, or near hot objects… however common sense dictates here, you shouldnt be placing any skincare on the radiator, it will only either melt the outer packaging, cause it to degrade really quickly or cause a fire.
Would I repurchase?
Yes, I’m going to be trying SPF 50 this time… just so that I’m ready for sunnier vacays and when I start using higher strength retinol (vitamin A) skincare. And oh, try the kids range too… (start them young eh?)
